Glass Lens Demonstration
Product Code : EL-LAO-10347
Quick answer: The Glass Lens Demonstration set holds six glass lenses, one of each common type: concave, convex, double concave, double convex, plano concave and plano convex. Students compare how each shape converges or diverges light and how focal length depends on curvature. Each lens is 38 mm in diameter with ground edges. Lab Exports manufactures it in Delhi for schools, colleges and universities.

How the set is used in teaching
A lens bends light because glass slows it down, and the shape of each face decides whether rays leaving the lens come together or spread apart. Lenses thicker at the centre, such as double convex and plano convex, are converging; those thinner at the centre, such as double concave and plano concave, are diverging. Having the six types side by side lets students link the cross-section of a lens to its behaviour.
In practical work a converging lens from the set can be held in a lens holder to form an image of a lamp or a distant window on a screen. Measuring the object distance u and image distance v gives the focal length through the lens formula 1/f = 1/v - 1/u, and comparing the plano and double forms shows how curvature changes f.
- Identify each lens by viewing its profile edge-on.
- Hold a converging lens up to a distant window and focus its image on a screen to estimate f.
- Look through a diverging lens to see the reduced upright image it forms.
- Return each lens to its foam slot to protect the surfaces.
Key features
- Six lens forms in one set: concave, convex, double concave, double convex, plano concave and plano convex.
- Uniform 1.5 in (38 mm) diameter across the set.
- Optically true glass surfaces for clear images.
- Ground glass edges on every lens.
- Foam-lined wooden box keeps each lens in its own place.
