How it is used
Before a vaginal or gynaecological procedure, the surgical site is cleaned with antiseptic. A folded swab is clamped in the jaws of the Cheron forceps, the ratchet is locked so the swab cannot come loose, and the long shanks let the operator swab and paint the area without the hand entering the field.
On the dressing trolley the same forceps serves as a serving (transfer) forceps. It stands in a forceps jar and is used to lift sterile swabs, dressings and instruments onto the sterile field without touching them by hand.
