Static Dynamic Balancing Apparatus
Product Code : EL-TOML-11019
Quick answer: The static and dynamic balancing apparatus is used to balance rotating masses on a shaft, first statically and then dynamically, and to show the vibration caused by unbalance. It has a stainless steel shaft, four stainless steel weights with different eccentric masses and a variable speed FHP motor. Lab Exports manufactures it in Delhi for engineering colleges, polytechnics and TVET institutes.

How the balancing experiment is done
A rotating mass whose centre of gravity is off the shaft axis sets up a centrifugal force m x r x omega^2 that shakes the bearings and frame. Static balance means the shaft stays at rest in any angular position, which requires the vector sum of m x r to be zero. Dynamic balance also needs the sum of the couples, m x r x l, about any plane to be zero, so that the shaft runs without rocking.
Students first find the m x r value of each weight by a static test, then draw the force and couple polygons to fix the angular and axial positions of the weights. The positions are set on the angular and longitudinal scales, and running the shaft at speed with the motor shows whether the system is truly balanced.
- Mount the eccentric weights on the stainless steel shaft.
- With the motor off, find each weight's static moment and check static balance by turning the shaft to different positions.
- Work out the angular and axial positions for dynamic balance from the couple polygon.
- Set the weights to those positions using the angular and longitudinal scales.
- Run the shaft at increasing speed with the controller and check whether the vibration has gone.

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between static and dynamic balancing?
Static balance removes the net centrifugal force, so the shaft rests in any position. Dynamic balance also removes the net couple along the shaft, so it runs at speed without rocking the bearings.
How many balancing weights are supplied?
Four stainless steel weights, each with a different sized eccentric mass.
What is the price of the balancing apparatus?
Prices are not published on the website. Add the balancing apparatus to the Enquiry Cart with the Add To Cart button on this page, or email [email protected] with the house code EL-TOML-11019 and the quantity, to receive a quotation.
Does Lab Exports manufacture the balancing apparatus?
Yes. Lab Exports manufactures the balancing apparatus at its works at 11/315, Lalita Park, Laxmi Nagar, Delhi 110092, under house code EL-TOML-11019.
